ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - Krunoslav Fehir, who is suspected along with independent MP Branimir Glavas of war crimes in Osijek in 1991, told an investigating judge on Friday that he felt good, but that he would feel even better when Glavas, who had given him orders, apologised to the victims.

"I feel better, but I will feel even better when not only I, but Glavas, who gave me orders, apologises to war victims as well," Fehir told reporters after giving a statement before Zagreb County Court investigating judge Zdenko Posavec for more than four hours.

Fehir's attorney Anto Nobilo, who accompanied his client, told reporters that Fehir had told the judge what he believed had happened and was true.

He said that Fehir expressed regret and remorse at what had happened. "His regret and remorse are the main reason why he spoke about the events which had haunted him all these years," Nobilo said.

He said that his client had given his statement as an accused, while previously he had done so as a witness because the investigation had been conducted against an unidentified perpetrator.

Nobilo said he believed that there was a possibility that his client could turn the state's evidence.

Fehir, a former member of the First Osijek Battalion which in 1991 was under Glavas's command, previously admitted to having shot a prisoner and testified about Glavas's alleged involvement in crimes against Serb civilians.

Glavas is suspected of being responsible for the maltreatment of three Serb civilians and the murder of two, one of whom disappeared without trace. In 1991 Glavas was municipal secretary of defence in Osijek and commander of the First Osijek Battalion. At yesterday's hearing before the investigating judge he dismissed all accusations.

After Glavas completes his statement on Monday, the investigating judge will decide whether to launch an investigation as requested by the Zagreb County Prosecutor's Office.
