ZAGREB, May 23 (Hina) - Economic cooperation between Croatia and Bulgaria is marked by strong trade growth, but Croatia is recording a significant trade deficit, which was one of the topics discussed at a two-day meeting of the Croatian-Bulgarian Commission on Economic Cooperation, held in Zagreb on Monday and Tuesday.

Bilateral trade last year increased by as much as 155 percent, amounting to USD200 million, the Croatian State Secretary for the Economy, Vladimir Vrankovic, and Bulgarian Deputy Economy and Energy Minister Anna Janeva said at the end of the meeting on Tuesday.

Croatian exports to Bulgaria increased by 39 percent to USD39.2 million, while imports from Bulgaria rose by more than 200 percent to USD162.13 million.

The commission discussed the balancing of trade, cooperation in the industry, commerce and statistics, labour and welfare policy, agriculture and food industry, science and technology, and protection and rescue operations.

Janeva said the talks resulted in several concrete agreements in the areas of agriculture, science, tourism and labour rights.

The two sides also proposed cooperation in scientific projects, particularly those financed with EU funds, as well as in the area of road and power infrastructure, Vrankovic said.

The commission also discussed necessary changes to the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA).
