ZAGREB, May 10 (Hina) - The Croatian Journalists Association (HND) has joined the editorial board of the Feral Tribune newspaper in the condemnation of death threats which were issued against reporter Drago Hedl.

"We would like to inform the Croatian public that it is the right and duty of a professional journalist to provide the public with facts of public interest, no matter how those facts can be unpleasant. Drago Hedl performed his duty in a professional and correct manner when he informed the public about the murders of Serb civilians in Osijek during the war, without prejudging decisions of investigating bodies and judicial bodies, as this was not his job, the HND president, Dragutin Lucic, said in a press release on Wednesday.

Feral Tribune reporter Drago Hedl pressed charges against unidentified persons in the eastern city of Osijek on Tuesday after they threatened to kill him.

Hedl called the police around 1500 hours Tuesday saying that several young men, who were sitting on the terrace of a cafe, first verbally abused and then threatened him while he was passing by, police chief Vladimir Faber said on Tuesday evening.

According to Wednesday's issues of Croatian dailies, the police arrested the 26-year-old Davor Boras, who is described as an aide and supporter of Branimir Glavas, due to those threats. Prosecutors suspect that Glavas allegedly committed war crimes in Osijek in 1991 about which Hedl has reported over recent years.
