Slobodan Raic, 40, was arrested at a border crossing with Serbia on Saturday on suspicion that on 16 November 1991 he and three unidentified members of Serb paramilitary forces had taken away wounded civilian Slavko Batik from the basement of a demolished building.
Batik has not been heard of since and is still listed as missing.
Raic, who was identified in a newspaper photograph as one of the four Serb paramilitaries who took Batik away, was born in the Vukovar area and has lived in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad in recent years. After a court hearing on Wednesday, he was remanded in custody in Osijek.
