ZAGREB, April 26 (Hina) - President Stjepan Mesic said on
Wednesday that a different mechanism should be sought to finance the defence of
General Rahim Ademi before a domestic court than that being applied in
financing the defence of indictees on trial at the UN war crimes tribunal in
The Hague. Asked by reporters in Zagreb about the financial problems
of General Ademi, whose case had been transferred from the Hague tribunal to
the Croatian judiciary, Mesic said that a trial before a Croatian court was one
thing and a trial before the Hague tribunal was another, and that therefore
sources of funding and obligations towards the defence were also different.
The President said that it was illogical that the Croatian state should
sue someone and then defend that person. "Another instrument should be found
here and it will be found," he said.
