"We should not drag the European political public into out daily political affairs," Mesic said during a visit to the eastern town of Pozega on Monday when asked about the latest conflicts between the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
"We have our strategic goals and all relevant political forces have opted for them. When those goals are concerned, all our citizens, regardless of their party affiliation, are partners to Europe," Mesic said.
He dismissed speculation that the conflict between the HDZ and the SDP was an announcement of early parliamentary elections. "The current government has a sufficient majority in the parliament and I see no reason for early elections," he said.
"What must be addressed now are outstanding issues such us unemployment, access to EU pre-accession funds, etc. Let us debate such issues and refrain from personal disputes," President Mesic said.
