The information was published in Belgrade's Vecernje Novosti daily on Friday and confirmed for Beta news agency by the spokesman for the Democratic Party, Djordje Todorovic. Todorovic said that the party was informed of the incident on Thursday.
According to him, the incident was committed by a mentally deranged person. The Democratic Party, which was headed by the assassinated prime minister, expects the police and competent bodies to issue a statement on what happened and which measures have been taken to prevent such incidents.
"This act of vandalism needs to be condemned," Todorovic said.
Djindjic was assassinated on 12 March 2003 outside the Serbian government headquarters. A former commander of the Serbian Interior Ministry's special operations unit, Milorad Ulemek Legija, and another 12 members of the unit and the Zemun mob ring were charged with the assassination.
