BRUSSELS, March 28 (Hina) - Regarding the enterprise and
industrial policy chapter, which was the topic of an explanatory screening
between Zagreb and the European Commission, Croatia will have to incorporate
two regulations from the EU acquis communautaire: a recommendation defining
micro, small and medium-sized companies and a directive tackling late payments,
the head of Croatia's negotiating team on this chapter, Olgica Spevec, said in
Brussels on Tuesday. Croatia will have to incorporate into its
small enterprise legislation a new European definition of micro, small and
medium-sized enterprises, which will enable a higher number of enterprises to
be listed in the category of small and medium-sized enterprises and qualify for
higher state subsidies, Spevec said.
Under the European definition, micro companies are those with up to 10
employees and an annual turnover of up to two million euros.
Small companies have up to 50 employees with an annual turnover of up
to 10 million euros, and medium-sized companies employ 51 to 250 workers and
have an annual turnover of up to 50 million euros.
The directive tackling late payments stipulates that payments should be
carried out within 30 days. Everything later than 30 days, except longer time
terms regulated by agreements, is considered overdue payment.
