Talks focused on the Supreme Court's role in the Croatian judiciary and the concrete measures it has been taking in recent months to resolve one of the biggest problems in the judiciary, the high number of backlog cases.
Hrvatin also presented activities being implemented to increase the effectiveness of courts. The European Commission Delegation will be regularly informed of the settlement of backlog cases, in some of which proceedings began more than five years ago.
The two officials also discussed the situation in legislation, notably regarding the appointment and promotion of judges, and other issues important for the upgrading of court performance in Croatia.
