The parliament continued its 19th session with a joint debate on the HNS-sponsored amendments to the Law on Profit Tax and the Law on the Financing of Local Self-Government Units.
Under the amendments, profit tax revenues should go to the state, while income tax revenues should be allocated solely to counties, towns and municipalities.
Opposition deputies are agreed that Croatia must carry out general decentralisation, including the fiscal sector, as soon as possible and that the proposal that income tax revenues be allocated to local self-government units is only the first step in that direction.
They also maintain that true decentralisation will be carried out and local authorities strengthened only after public revenues for counties, towns and municipalities are increased.
