ZAGREB/THE HAGUE, March 14 (Hina) - The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on Tuesday declared the trial which it had led against Slobodan Milosevic closed.

"His death terminates these proceedings," said Presiding Judge Patrick Robinson in Courtroom One of the Hague tribunal.

The 64-year-old Milosevic, who died in his cell of the ICTY detention centre on Saturday, was indicted with genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina and crimes against humanity in Croatia and Kosovo in 1990s.

According to preliminary autopsy results, Milosevic, who was frequently dubbed as the Balkan butcher, died of a heart attack.

The UN war crimes tribunal commenced the trial against him in February 2002.
