"Milosevic planned and started the war based on war crimes and genocide. He was the source of everything, he commanded the army and its followers in the so-called Krajina and Republika Srpska and was behind the events in Kosovo," Mesic said in an interview with Croatian Radio.
Milosevic's death should not jeopardise Serbia's cooperation with the Hague war crimes tribunal and Serbia is now facing a catharsis and coming to terms with the truth about Milosevic's criminal policy, Mesic said.
Asked how justice could be done, Mesic said that one should arrest Radovan Karadzic, Ratko Mladic, and members of the former Yugoslav army leadership, generals Blagoje Adzic and Veljko Kadijevic, who he said had defined the borders of Greater Serbia and were responsible for attacks on Vukovar and other towns, as well as for people being taken to prison camps and executed in large numbers.
Commenting on the debt of Ljubljanska Banka to Croatian clients, Mesic said the debt had nothing with succession to the former Yugoslavia and that it would have to be paid back sooner or later.
"This is an obligation of Ljubljanska Banka and all of its depositors should have equal status," Mesic said.
Asked about Italy's request for Croatia to liberalise the purchase of real estate, Mesic said Croatia should advocate the principle of reciprocity.
