Cooperation between the four countries on this project began in September 2003 when the mayors of the Croatian town of Mursko Sredisce, the Slovene town of Lendava, the Austrian town of Bad Radkersburg and Hungary's Lenti signed a letter of intent on cooperation in organising joint cultural, tourist, sporting and environmental events.
Currently joint projects are being carried out through three programmes: Murania Tourist Zone, Murania Incubator for economic development and Murania Rural Development.
In September 2004, the four towns signed twinning charters.
"We support this initiative, as we cooperate with those three EU member states," said a Croatian representative, Gordan Jandrokovic, who is the co-chairman of the joint EU-Croatian joint parliamentary committee.
The Brussels event pooled representatives from all the four countries and all of them promoted their part of the Euro-Region Murania.
