Sanader put the letter in the context of an ongoing election campaign in Italy and noted that it was yet to be seen if there were any new elements in the letter.
"This issue with Italy should be settled on a reciprocal basis. Italy should be treated like all other EU members, but Italy should also treat Croatia in a non-discriminatory manner," the prime minister told reporters at Zagreb's Westin Hotel where he was attending a gathering organised by the Croatian Employers' Association.
Sanader was also asked to comment on information that Croatian Serb wartime leader Milan Martic had committed suicide in the detention unit of the Hague war crimes tribunal. "I expect a full report," he said.
Asked if this case could affect other trials at the tribunal, Sanader said: "I do not see how it could affect any other trial."
