ZAGREB, Feb 25 (Hina) - The head of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reis-el-ulema Mustafa Ceric, on Friday evening presented his draft Declaration of European Muslims in the mosque in the Croatian capital of Zagreb.

In the document the dignitary calls for the institutionalisation of Islam in Europe and stresses that Muslims are fully committed to the European values and want to be a part of the European life and progress.

Adressing the present, including many foreign ambassadors, other religious communities' representatives and officials of international organisations, Mustafa Ceric said that a purpose of the declaration is to call on Europeans to help Muslims find their place in Europe.

The reis-ul-ulema expressed regret to see that "Islam has not yet been naturalised in Euope" but has a status of an alien or can enjoy a special status and is tolerated but is not accepted as being equal with other religions.

Recalling that in Europe there are about 30 million Muslims, including those who are autochthonous, or those who have immigrated and their descendants born on European soil, Ceric said that all of them "want to be a part of the European life and progress, including social, political, cultural and moral development of European countries", and that is why the issues of vital improtance are the presentation of Islam and institutions of this religion in Europe.

He called on European Muslims to have their European goal and that it would ba a new Westphalian Peace with an agremeent on cherishing peace and tolerance between Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam and Judaism as European religions.

The dignitary stressed that Muslims fully embrace the principles of the rule of law, tolerance, the respect for human rights and democracy and hold the belief that every man has the right to five vital values: life, faith, freedom, property and honour.

In addition to allowing the institutionalisation of Islam, Europe is expected to liberalise its immigartion policy, have better protective mechanisms against islamophobia, and make it possible for the Muslims to have Islamic schools and enjoy political and economic freedoms.

During his speech Ceric told Muslims that in Europe "freedom is not given as a present" but "it must be conquered" but this conquest means that every citizen carries out his or her duties in a community where they live.

He also called on Muslims to change "a globally poor image of Muslims into a globally good image".

Ceric drew up the declaration last year, and the first presentation of the document was held at a conference of the Islamic Forum of Europe in London last August.
