Speaking to reporters after the closed session, Piplovic denied he had been offered a position in the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) or the post of an assistant minister in the government.
Piplovic stressed that reasons for his departure were primarily of a political nature. He confirmed that he would join the HDZ and added that according to his information a lot of leaders of DC county and town branches would leave the party.
The DC is led by Vesna Skare-Ozbolt who was recently relieved of her duties as minister of justice.
