"Croatia expressed its desire and intention to continue all forms of cooperation we have had so far, including training for our officers here in America and at the Marshall Centre in Germany," Grabar-Kitarovic told reporters after the meeting in the Pentagon.
The Croatian minister described the meeting as "open, constructive and very friendly."
The talks focused on cooperation between Croatia and the United States on Croatia's path to NATO membership and the military reform Croatia was implementing in order to adapt to alliance standards.
Also discussed was a military exercise dubbed "ARIEX 06", which is due to take place in the Croatian naval port of Lora outside Split from 27 to 31 March as part of the US-Adriatic Charter, which includes Albania, Croatia, Macedonia and the US as members and some other countries such as Hungary and Poland.
Grabar-Kitarovic said that the naval and land exercise would have "far-reaching effects on the strengthening of security in the region and Europe in general."
The purpose of the exercise would be to train for the coordination and effective prevention of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Grabar-Kitarovic said that Croatia would like to continue cooperation within the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), which includes over 60 countries, and suggested organising a military exercise within the PSI and the Shipboarding Agreement, which Croatia has signed with the US to promote cooperation in preventing the movement and transport of weapons of mass destruction and related material by sea.
The minister said that the US accepted the idea as "a very good initiative on which both sides will continue working."
