Croatian PM grants interview to Croatian United Nations Association

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, Oct 4 (Hina) - After returning from New York, where she had addressed the United Nations General Assembly, Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor granted an interview to the Croatian United Nations Association on international affairs, Croatia's candidacy for the Peacebuilding Commission and on the position of women in politics.

Croatia has made great progress since 1992 when it joined the United Nations, Kosor said in the interview.

Croatia's membership of the United Nations Security Council in 2008-2009 crowned the country's engagement within UN system and the deployment of Croatian troops and police in 14 peace operations throughout the world, the premier said.

Commenting on gender equality in politics, Kosor said women should not be just a decoration in politics.

They should be awarded posts with real power, she said positively assessing the trend of increasing number of women as heads of state or government.

"I am sure that, some time from now, the head at the East River will be a woman," she said.

She added that Croatia had applied for its second membership in the Peacebuilding Commission for the 2012-2013 period.

Croatia was a member of that UN agency in 2006-2007.
