ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - Before becoming a full member of the
European Union, Croatia must draw up a national development strategy in
accordance with the goals and recommendations of the revised Lisbon strategy,
the National Competitiveness Council said in a press release on Tuesday. Council members convened in Zagreb on Monday to get acquainted with the
new priorities of the revised Lisbon agenda, including a 3-percent rise in
Gross Domestic Product and the creation of six million jobs in the European
Union until 2010 so that the EU can become the most competitive market in the
world based on knowledge and sustainable development with strong social
cohesion and environment protection.
The Council concluded that Croatia should follow the examples of
Finland or Ireland so as not to lag behind EU member-states.
