Croatia's progress and resolve in implementing reforms are unquestionable and it will soon rightfully become the 28th member of the European Union, Jandrokovic said at the Croatian-German parliamentary conference called "Croatian on the Threshold of the EU".
The event was held in Zagreb within a visit of 15 German and Bavarian parliamentarians to the Croatian capital.
"Our goal is to wrap up the technical negotiations with the EU by the end of this year or in the first quarter of the next year so that during Hungary's presidency of the EU, in the first half of 2011, we could sign the Treaty of Accession with the EU," the Croatian minister said, recalling that Croatia had already opened all 33 negotiating chapters and provisionally closed 22 of them.
Croatia has amended the Constitution and a working group consisting of European Commission and Croatian officials has been intensively working on the text of the accession treaty, Jandrokovic said.
Croatia is working on meeting remaining benchmarks from the two most demanding policy chapters -- Judiciary and Fundamental Rights and Competition Policy --, Jandrokovic said.
He also singled out as the forthcoming challenges the implementation of the communication strategy aimed informing the Croatians about the European Union membership and the organisation of a referendum on Croatia's admission to the Union.
It is important for Croatia to have the support from the European Commission and all EU members, the Croatian minister said adding that Zagreb expects the EU to give a concrete time frame and clearly defined conditions for its entry into the bloc.
