ZAGREB, July 12 (Hina) - The trial of Croatian Army generals Rahim Ademi and Mirko Norac, indicted for war crimes committed during Operation "Medak Pocket", continued on Thursday with the reading of logs on events that occurred during the 1993 liberation operation in Croatia's central Lika region.

Although the hearing, the third consecutive one at which the prosecution documents supporting allegations from the indictment were read out, did not attract media attention, the attorney representing the victims, Dragan Jovanic, said the presented evidence was very important.

"These are relevant documents because they show that executions did occur in that area and reporters should focus more on that than on alleged conflicts between the two defence teams," Jovanic said.

According to the documents, there were no captured enemy soldiers, which means that there were executions, Jovanic said.

It is still not known if a former special police commander, General Mladen Markac, will testify in the trial on Monday. An indictee of the Hague war crimes tribunal, Markac, is banned from making public statements.

Markac's attorney Goran Mikulicic said today that he still had not received an answer from the tribunal as to whether Markac could testify in the Norac-Ademi trial. He added that the tribunal's prosecution had decided that there was no reason why he should not testify.

Still, it is up to the tribunal to make a final decision, he added.

Judge Marin Mrcela, who presides over the trial, said that the schedule of testimonies of all known witnesses, except for protected witnesses and those from foreign countries, would be known on Monday, when Croatia's former interior minister Ivan Jarnjak and Mladen Markac are expected to take the witness stand.

Mrcela believes that the court could complete the hearing of all witnesses by October 10.

The Norac-Ademi trial is the first trial to be referred to Croatia by the Hague tribunal. The two generals are charged according to command responsibility with crimes against Serb civilians in Operation "Medak Pocket" and the random and excessive shelling of Serb villages.
