Croatia is fully cooperating with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), but today the country is facing new challenges, namely war crimes trials, which is one of the reasons why we would like to keep some form of an OSCE presence in Croatia in the future, Rehn said.
This is a practical issue for us because OSCE is doing an important monitoring job, which is important for the EU and our progress report, particularly when it comes to war crimes trials and the return of refugees, Rehn added.
The status of the OSCE Mission is not important to us but the job the Mission is doing, Rehn said in a discussion on the results of the work of the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague, that was also attended by ICTY Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte.
