The Kosovo police said that there were no incidents at the gathering and that the situation in the province was calm. This is a result of the work of Kosovo and UN police forces and of UN Civil Administrator Joachim Ruecker's decision to outlaw a paramilitary unit called the Guards of King Lazar from Serbia, which he banned from attending the commemoration and organising any activity in Kosovo.
Participants in the commemoration of the 1389 battle between a coalition of Serb lords and the Ottoman Empire signed a declaration against Kosovo's independence, which they said would be sent to important international institutions.
