According to available information, the spill was caused by a fault in the purifier of oil derivatives in the refinery. As soon as the spill was noticed, the fault was temporarily removed and no further liquid is spilling into the river, the note said.
Relevant institutions in Bosnia's Serb entity were requested to investigate the circumstances in which the pollution occurred and punish those responsible for this ecological incident, the note said.
The fault is expected to be entirely removed in a few days, the Croatian spokesman said.
Another oily spot noticed further east down the Sava near Brcko today was caused by a spill of edible oil from the Bimal company in Brcko, the company said in a statement delivered to Hina.
Preventive measures were taken in line with the ISO system and a probe was launched to establish the cause of the spill, the statement said.
