Mesic underlined the importance of having an ambassador's position for Croatia's relations with the most powerful country in Maghreb.
"That country deserves that we send an ambassador who understands the world's movement, relations in Maghreb and the state of affairs in Algeria, but it also deserves an ambassador who very well understands the state of affairs in his own country. This is why (Mirko Bolfek) is our choice and we expect results," Mesic said.
Thanking the president, Ambassador Bolfek said he would do his best to perform his duties so as to protect Croatia's interest and promote relations with Algeria as a friendly country in all sectors, notably in the economy.
Prior to his appointment as Croatia's ambassador to Algeria, Bolfek was the director general of the Croatian News Agency (HINA).
