The general assessment of personal health on a scale of one to five was rather good - 3.7. Around 36% of respondents said they suffered from a disease and had to take medication permanently.
Medications, prescription charges and medical check-ups account for two-thirds of overall health expenses, while alternative forms of treatment, visits to spas, rehabilitation etc. account for one-fourth of medical expenses. Reported annual medical costs amount to around one billion kuna.
Slightly less than 90% of respondents said they had never given their doctor money or a present for medical services.
If offered an appropriate insurance policy, as much as 90% of respondents would be willing to pay private health insurance.
The survey, covering respondents over the age of 15, referred to health services and satisfaction with certain aspects of basic health insurance, chronic diseases and consumption of medications, fear of diseases, current and potential users of health insurance, expectations related to private health insurance, and health insurance companies.
