WASHINGTON, May 1 (Hina) - Roots of Peace, a humanitarian non-profit organisation dedicated to the eradication of landmines, has awarded the Global Citizen Awards to Queen Noor of Jordan and Mike Grgich, legendary Napa Valley vintner, for their tireless advocacy of raising landmine awareness around the globe, the organisation said in a press release.

The first-ever Global Citizen Awards was presented onboard Queen Mary 2 at her homeport in Brooklyn, during the "Cruise for Peace" Bon Voyage Luncheon sponsored by Cunard Line on Monday.

Queen Noor has been a tireless advocate for mine victims and their families to recover, heal, and resume their role as participating and contributing members of society.

After a visit to the minefields in his homeland of Croatia in 2000 with Roots of Peace, Mike Grgich was inspired to raise funds for landmine removal through the proceeds of a charity fundraiser celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Paris Tasting. Since then, he has continued his support of Roots of Peace which has now completed projects in Dragalic, Bibinje, Cista Mala, Cista Velika, Ilok, and Karlovac in Croatia.
