Addressing members of parliament, the Minister of War Veterans' Affairs, Jadranka Kosor said that means allocated to veterans and their families since 2003 had risen by 2.2 billion kuna.
In 2006, about 3.4 billion kuna were allocated for pensions for beneficiaries in this category, i.e. 42,465 war veterans and members of their families were entitled to pensions and 5,607 beneficiaries received unemployment assistance, with 323 receiving compensation for salaries.
Last year, more than 185 million kuna were spent from funds of the Health Insurance Agency (HZZO) for veterans.
Currently, the current value of the Croatian Veterans' Fund is about 3.7 billion kuna.
The minister said that the government had taken measures for employing this category of citizens the implementation of which required 35 million kuna.
She said that 25 million kuna were available to the Croatian war veterans' endowment to be used as assistance to destitute families of veterans.
Regarding the housing problems, currently 369 flats for disabled war veterans and families of dead soldiers are under construction and plans are being making for the construction of an additional 381 flats.
