In the next six years, from 2007 to 2013, the EC will set aside 250 million euros for cooperation among Adriatic countries, and the Adriatic Euro-region is expected to get some of the funds.
The session of the Executive Committee of the Adriatic Euro-region has confirmed great interest in cooperation in the Adriatic and proven to be a great initiative accepted by all Adriatic regions, Jakovcic said.
Cooperation in the Adriatic Euro-region will be nominated as a European program, and the EC will thus be requested to finance its work.
After the Executive Committee session, commissions on fisheries, and culture and tourism held their founding sessions.
The fisheries commission will be headed by Croatia's Zadar County, while the commission on culture and tourism will be chaired by a representative of Italy's province of Puglia, with deputy chairs from Istria County and the Albanian province of Lezha.
Commissions on environmental issues, production, and transport and infrastructure will be set up on Tuesday.
The Brijuni meeting is discussing the long-term financing of the Euro-region and the creation of conditions that would make it a meeting place where programs concerning Adriatic cooperation will be determined.
The next election convention is to be held in Albania this autumn.
The Adriatic Euro-region consists of the Adriatic regions of Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania. It was founded in Pula in June last year.
