ZAGREB, April 10 (Hina) - The deputy president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zeljka Antunovic, has said that she personally supports the contribution of Ljubo Jurcic to the party's efforts to accomplish its goals and that she will continue to support him if the SDP decides that he should join the party and become a government member in case the strongest opposition party wins the next parliamentary elections.

Asked to comment on the open backing of some prominent SDP members to the idea that Jurcic, an economics professor who is not a party member, should be the SDP candidate for the post of prime minister, Antunovic told reporters on Tuesday that she had so far supported Jurcic and his work and that she would do this in the future if the SDP decided to have him in the next government.

Jurcic is the author of the SDP economy platform for the next elections.

The most important thing for the SDP now is to mobilise its members and strength (ahead of parliamentary elections), Antunovic said.

"What I want is to bring the SDP to the victory at the elections and defeat the HDZ government which we find unacceptable," said she in the context of the present situation, with SDP leader Ivica Racan being treated for cancer.

Antunovic and other senior SDP officials today presented the party's platform for the development of the health sector.

Antunovic criticised the current government for shifting health care costs from state funds to patients.

She said that it was necessary to ensure better organisation of this sector and that health care should be made available to everybody without raising costs.

The goal of the platform is to ensure a comprehensive, solidary and available health care system.
