An HSS deputy in the parliament and chairman of the parliamentary committee on tourism, Ante Markov, who is the author of the programme, said that its purpose was to ensure the even development of tourism, because continental tourism accounted for only two percent of the tourism industry.
Speaking of measures needed to create new tourist values, Markov mentioned specialised development agencies, subsidised interest rates, the introduction of a register of food and tourist products, the promotion of the national food, manufacturing and textile industries, and the introduction of a single tourism VAT rate of 10 percent.
HSS president Josip Friscic called for increasing the accommodation capacity of the continental and coastal tourism industries.
HSS vice-president Bozidar Pankretic underlined the importance of promotion of indigenous products with protected geographical origin, adding that Croatia currently has only several products with protected geographical origin.
