ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - The agreement on the adjustment of the 1999 Agreement on Land Phone Network Operating Licences signed by Transport and Development Minister Bozidar Kalmeta on February 28, 2007 does not give Croatian Telecom (HT) any ownership rights over underground distribution and telecommunication channels as claimed by Tatjana Holjevac, chairwoman of the Zagreb City Assembly, the Ministry of Transport and Development said in a statement on Thursday.

The agreement was signed in line with obligations from the Telecommunications Act and it equates the status, rights and obligations of HT in providing telecommunication services under the same transparent conditions that apply to other telecommunication operators and providers of telecommunication services in the Croatian market.

The adjustment of the 1999 agreement officially annuls all provisions of that agreement that are contrary to the Telecommunications Act, notably provisions pertaining to HT's remaining exclusive or special rights.

HT's authorisation for the provision of telecommunication services, which stemmed from the 1999 Agreement, is replaced with appropriate authorisation in line with the Telecommunications Act.

The agreement on the adjustment of the 1999 Agreement on Land Phone Network Operating Licences was signed by HT, the Government and the Agency for Telecommunications as an independent regulatory body, and was submitted to the European Commission for inspection, the ministry said.

The leader of the United Independent Lists, Tatjana Holjevac, told reporters at a special news conference today she had information that the government and T-HT had last week signed a secret agreement implicitly recognising T-HT's ownership of underground distribution and telecommunication channels.
