The HRT Programmes Council on Friday supported Galic's request for being relieved of the duty on 31 March, and decided to invite applications for the post of the HRT Director-General next week.
Galic will become Croatia's Ambassador to France and the Croatian permanent representative to the UNESCO in Paris.
Commenting on the performance of the HRT in the past seven years during his term in office, Galic said the "Copernican revolution" had happened in the Croatian Television that had freed itself from political clout.
Galic was satisfied with what he called the successful modernisation of the HRT and the Croatian Television that managed to retain the highest viewer ratings also after the appearance of the competition.
He, however, warned that a lot of work should now be done in the company's internal restructuring.
