The organiser of the protest, the Movement for Self-Determination, wants immediate independence from Belgrade.
About 3,000 disgruntled Kosovo Albanians took to Pristina's streets to protest against the plan for Kosovo's future which UN special envoy Martti Ahtisaari presented last week, foreign news agencies estimated.
The demonstrators said the plan did not contain full independence for Kosovo, they asked for the right to call a referendum on independence and rejected negotiations with Serbia.
Kosovo police, supported by the Italian carabinieri and the UN Police, closed the road leading to the UN headquarters in Pristina.
One of the protesters was injured and several were arrested, foreign agencies said.
Police used tear gas to disperse protesters in a similar rally last November.
