Autor: mses
SARAJEVO, Sept 5 (Hina) - Milorad Dodik, the Bosnian Serb entity's Prime Minister and the leader of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, is the wealthiest politician in Bosnia-Herzegovina, according to the declarations of assets which politicians were expected to submit in order to run in the forthcoming general election in the country.

A total of 3,900 candidates were obliged to fill in the declaration forms and forward them to the Central Election Commission (SIP). The forms include information on candidates' income, bank accounts, cars, real estate etc.

By the deadline for the submission of the declarations on 2 September, 378 candidates failed to send their statements and they will be fined between EUR 500 and 2,500.

According to local media reports on Friday, Dodik, who is running in the election for the Serb entity's president in this poll, earned a total of EUR 122,000 in 2009. Broken down by income source, he earned EUR 30,000 from his salary as the entity's prime minister, EUR 50,000 were from the leasing of his flats in Belgrade, and and additional EUR 40,000 from agricultural business.

He estimated the value of his real estate and car at EUR 1.45 million.

The opposition Social Democratic Party leader, Zlatko Lagumdzija reported his earnings in 2009 in the amount at some EUR 60,000. This member of the House of Representatives in the Bosnian Parliamentary Assembly and a professor at the University of Sarajevo cited several sources of his income in 2009.

He also reported co-ownership of several real estate properties and added his savings in the amount of EUR 275,000.

Some other high-profile politicians seem more modest when it comes to presenting their assets.

The Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) leader, Dragan Covic, reported the earnings from his salary in the amount of slightly over EUR 7,000 in 2009. He is the owner of a EUR 250,000 house and he and his wife are the co-owners of a flat. He also has a car, worth EUR 50,000.

The Croat member of the Bosnian collective presidency, Zeljko Komsic, reported the earnings of slightly over 30,000 from his salary. He said that he was the owner of a moderately-priced flat and that he had to pay back a EUR 60,000 loan.

His Bosniak (Muslim) counterpart in the presidency, Haris Silajdzic also gave modest figures in the declaration.

Media tycoon Fahrudin Radoncic, the owner of the Avaz media company, who is running for the Bosniak member of the country's tripartite presidency, made moderate earnings in 2009 according to his declaration. He reported his salary of EUR 690 per month.

However, EUR 250,000 earned from dividends should be added to this amount. Furthermore he reported that his media company was worth "several hundred million convertible marks.

The general election is set for 3 October.
