Kosor says inner cabinet to consider unions' requests

Autor: mses
LIPIK, July 2 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor has said that the inner cabinet will consider a proposal by trade unions to treat the signatures collected for their petition for a referendum on labour legislation as if the referendum were held.

In response to reporters' questions during her visit to the town of Lipik, 100 kilometres east of Zagreb, she said on Friday that the inner cabinet would also consider whether rules from the old or the current constitution would be applied if the referendum was organised.

Asked whether a possible withdrawal of government-sponsored amendments to labour legislation from parliamentary procedure would mean that the legislation would not be amended in one year's time, Kosor said that no social partner should set ultimatums if they wanted social partnership.

Kosor reiterated that the government's economic recovery programme, which she said received kudos from the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Croatian National Bank, the Economic and Social Council, must be implemented.

In connection with the budget deficit of HRK 7.7 billion in H1 2010, Kosor said the implementation of the economic recovery plan required sacrifices from everybody.

We cannot revise the budget if everybody insists on what they think they are entitled to, the premier said.
