BRUSSELS, March 31 (Hina) - Former Finnish President Martti
Ahtisaari has great experience in resolving conflicts, can help in efforts to
find a European solution to the border dispute between Croatia and Slovenia and
need not be a law expert to respect international law, European Union
Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said in Brussels on Tuesday. I
see Ahtisaari as the chairman of a group of experts seeking a European
solution. He has great experience in resolving conflicts and enjoys great
reputation. In addition, you needn't be a law expert to respect international
law, Rehn said during a debate of the European Parliament's External Affairs
Committee.
Rehn said this in response to a remark by MEP Doris Pack who asked him
about the role of the former Finnish president in efforts to settle the
Croatian-Slovene border row in light of the fact that he is not a jurist.
