BELGRADE, April 28 (Hina) - Serbian Justice Ministry State
Secretary Slobodan Homen has said that there are no legal possibilities for
Serbia to hand over Sreten Jocic a.k.a. Joca Amsterdam to Croatia, where he is
wanted for his role in last year's assassination of Nacional weekly co-owner
and editor Ivo Pukanic and his associate Niko Franjic. Serbia and
Croatia have not signed a bilateral agreement on cooperation in such cases, and
Serbian laws do not allow the extradition of Serbian nationals, Homen told the
Belgrade television network B92.
Jocic will, therefore, be put on trial in Belgrade, Homen said.
Jocic was arrested in his home in Belgrade on Monday, after Serbian
state prosecutors issued a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of involvement
in the assassination.
Pukanic and Franic were killed by a scooter bomb in downtown Zagreb on
23 October 2008. Pukanic wrote several stories about Jocic, describing him as a
person linked with Montenegro's tobacco mafia.
