Eight trade unions of workers in education, science, public health, culture and social welfare took part in the referendum, and the turnout was 72 percent.
As many as 86 percent voted for the strike, trade union leaders said at a news conference in Zagreb on Tuesday.
The only low turnout, 46 percent, was registered at the referendum organised by physicians' trade union, however, 86 percent of those who went to the referendum were in favour of industrial action, which is why the physicians' union will undertake additional consultations among its membership.
Public servants seem to be in favour of the strike after the government decided to trim their salaries by six percent as an anti-recession measure.
Trade unions of public servants demand a 19.6 percent salary increase over a period of three years after the country overcomes the crisis.
For this purpose, the government should earmark a total of HRK 6 billion, or 1-2 percent of the total budget sum annually, one of the union leaders told the news conference.
