"These are local elections for all cities and I don't see why our excellent results, for example in Zadar, should not be comparable with results in other cities," Kosor said, commenting on some media reports focusing on the results of local elections in the four largest cities -- Zagreb, Split, Rijeka and Osijek -- where the HDZ candidates did not perform well.
According to preliminary results, among the cities where HDZ candidates took the lead are Karlovac, Dubrovnik and Velika Gorica.
Kosor said that information from HDZ branches showed that the party achieved better results in some communities than expected.
Meanwhile, Social Democratic Party (SDP) President Zoran Milanovic visited the SDP headquarters in Zagreb to congratulate the incumbent Mayor, Milan Bandic, on a strong lead in the polls.
When asked by reporters for a comment on the preliminary results of the local polls, Milanovic briefly said: "Excellent!".
