ZAGREB, May 19 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament will begin its 11th session on Wednesday and the first topic on the session's agenda is the decision of the parliamentary Credentials and Privileges Commission (MIP) to strip member of Parliament Branimir Glavas of immunity so he could be placed in custody after he was found guilty of war crimes and sentenced to 10 years in prison pending appeal earlier this month.

Last week, the commission decided to strip Glavas of immunity, and given that the parliament (Sabor) was not in session at the time, the parliamentary commission's decision immediately took effect.

MPs are expected to decide at the plenary session whether they will endorse this decision.

Enjoying parliamentary immunity, Glavas was not in custody during the trial, and the relevant legislation did not require his attendance at a session when the Zagreb County Court announced its verdict in the case against him and another five defendants. Shortly before he was handed down the verdict, Glavas fled to Bosnia.

The 11th parliamentary session, which will last until mid-July, will be opened with Question Time tomorrow morning.
