Addressing the first session of the new make-up of the HNV in the northern city of Subotica, Vojvodina, Bacic said his first task would be to try increase the number of pupils enrolled in first grade classes in the Croatian language.
He also announced the adjustment of HNV regulations to the legislation on national minorities.
The 29-member HNV today elected its executive board with Darko Saric Lukendic as the committee's chairman.
Two political parties nominated their lists in the process of the election of the new HNV on 6 June: the Democratic Alliance of Vojvodina Croats (DSHV) and the Democratic Party (DS) led by Serbian President Boris Tadic through DS members of Croat background. The DSHV list, led by Slaven Bacic, won 18 seats and the DS ensured the remaining 11 seats.
DS representative Petar Balazevic today said that this party did not want conflicts in the Council and therefore all executive duties in the body would be performed by the winner, that is by DSHV representatives.
In attendance at the inaugural session was Croatian Ambassador to Serbia, Zeljko Kupresak, who applauded a peaceful and democratic manner of the election of the new ethnic Croat leadership.
