On 26 June 1991, only a few hours after Croatia declared its independence, Serb paramilitaries, supported by the then Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), launched an attack on the police station in that Croatian town 60 kilometres south of the capital of Zagreb.
Croatian policeman Tomislav Rom was killed and another two were wounded in the attack. In addition, 16 Croatian policemen were captured by the Serb forces and transferred to the prison in Knin, which was at the time stronghold of Serb insurgents.
Wreath-laying ceremonies were today held at Rom's grave in his village of Gornji Vidusevac.
