The office's head, Krunoslav Borovec said on Sunday that media speculations such as articles issued in the dailies - Jutarnji List and Vecernji List - on Saturday and Sunday on tapped telephone conversations between a government minister and a criminal during an investigation were incorrect and that those speculations were "detrimental to the work and reputation of the police".
Borovec said that "the police have not and is not conducting investigative measures into criminal acts in which conversations of any member of the government with a person, the target of the investigation, could be recorded".
Borovec said that the police would timely inform the public about any case of crime when establishing that well-grounded suspicion exists, just as, he said, they always did.
