ZAGREB, July 1 (Hina) - Invitations for privatisation tenders for six Croatian state-run shipyards will be published next week, the Croatian Economy Ministry's State Secretary, Leo Begovic, said on Wednesday after a meeting of shipyard management representatives, trade unionists and government officials on the matter.

Nearly all preparations for the publication of the invitation for tenders are nearing the end and the ministry today updated trade unions and managers with draft decisions which should be adopted for launching the process for the selection of the most favourable bids, Begovic said.

Participants in the meeting considered the make-up of a commission in charge of short-listing tenders. After that the government will decide on tenderers.

The deadline for submitting tenders will be 60 days after the publication of the invitation.

Unionists, who took part in today's meeting, expressed satisfaction with the meeting

In mid-June Croatia and the European Commission agreed on models for the privatisation of all six state-run shipyards

When it comes to Uljanik, the only profitable and successful shipyard, 25 percent of its stock will be offered to the shipyard's employees under privileged conditions, and the initial price for 59.25 percent of shares will be their nominal value.

The nominal value will be the initial price also for the BSO shipyard for special-purpose vessels in Split, which will be privatised in its entirety.

The initial price for the remaining four shipyards - Brodosplit, Brodotrogir, 3. Maj and Kraljevica - will be HRK 1 for each shipyard's entire ownership package.

A total capacity of Croatian shipyards upon the completion of their restructuring will be 413,000 tonnes.

Agreeing on the privatisation models and inviting tenders for privatisation means that Croatia has met benchmarks for opening the policy chapter Competition Policy, one of the toughest chapters in its EU accession negotiations.
