The EC and I personally remain committed to enlargement, particularly to Croatia's admission. As you know, if Croatia does not enter the Union as soon as we wish, the reason is not a lack of engagement on the part of the Commission, and particularly Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, who has done a great job. However, it is a fact that there are some problems, not with the Commission but in this case with at least a (EU) member-state. We changed some proposals how to overcome those problems, but it was impossible, and now we are seeking new models to solve the issue, and we remain committed to enlargement, Barroso said in Stockholm where he arrived to attend the session of the government of Sweden, which assumed the six-month rotating presidency today.
Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said that the issue of the dispute and the blockade had been discussed with the Slovenian and Croatian Prime Ministers Borut Pahor and Ivo Sanader.
Now we need an initiative from those two countries on how we could proceed further, Reinfeldt said.
