BRUSSELS, June 22 (Hina) - A Croatian-Slovenian border dispute is a bilateral issue which these two countries should settle alone and the upcoming Swedish presidency of the European Union is not intending to interfere in it, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt said at a news conference in Brussels on Monday.

There are different blockades imposed by different countries and I would say that now it is the time to start thinking.

This is a bilateral dispute and the responsibility for solving bilateral disputes lies with those countries. In our opinion, bilateral disputes should not obstruct (a candidate's EU) accession negotiations, but as we know, this is about it. Now it is up to these countries to think and we will see whether the thinking will produce any results at some moment in the future, Bildt said in response to questions from the press whether Sweden was planning to do anything after the failure of the latest efforts by Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn to help Croatia and Slovenia to resolve their border row which brought Croatia's EU accession talks to a standstill in the last six months.

Asked by reporters to clarify his statement and explain which consequences this situation would produce for Croatia's goal to finish its entry talks by the end of this year, Bildt said that he could not be clearer.

Primarily these two countries should solve that. I hope that these two countries would think about. If they have anything to say, I will be willing to listen to them, he said.

When it comes to consequences for Croatia and Slovenia, I think that there will be (consequences) for both countries in different ways, the Swedish official said.

Bildt said this at the news conference he held together with the Swedish Minister for European Union Affairs, Cecilia Mallstroem, to present their country's agenda for its presidency over the 27-strong European bloc in the next six months.

The EU presidency by the Czech Republic ends on 30 June.
