Preliminary estimates show 2.5% fall in Croatia's GDP in Q1 2010

ZAGREB, May 28 (Hina) - The preliminary estimates of Croatia's Gross Domestic Product in the first quarter of 2010, released by by the Central Bureau of Statistics (DZS) on Friday, show a GDP contraction of 2.5 percent on the year in the real terms.

Thus, the economy was still contracting, albeit at a slower rate of decline.

For instance, GDP slumped by 6.7 percent in the the first quarter of 2009, and by 6.3 percent in Q2 2009, as well as by 5.7 percent and by 4.5 percent respectively in the last two quarters of 2009.

According to the DZS figures, Croatia's GDP in 2009 went down by 5.8 percent in the real terms in 2009 as against 2008.

The updated, second estimate of Q1 2010 GDP will be released on 30 June.
