When asked to assess the quality of their life, young Slovenians assessed on average the life satisfaction with 7.9 on the scale from 0 to 10. "Overall self-assessment of satisfaction with the lives of young people has increased by 0.3 percentage points in the last five years," the statistical office says.
The cohort of youngsters aged 15-29 account for 15.1% of the total population in this country whose current population is estimated at 2,081,393, based on the latest United Nations estimates.
"At the end of 2017 there were more than 312,000 young people (15–29 years) in Slovenia, which was 15.1% of total Slovenian population or 22.8% less than ten years ago," the Slovenian office stated on its web site.
This bears witness to the fact that the Slovenian population is ageing.
The employment rate of the Slovenian youth is 51.1%, and 48.6% of them are permanently and 27.1% temporarily employed.
Four fifths of young people living in their parental households
The statistical office reports that as many as 79.3% of young Slovenians lived in the parental household in 2016, which was more than the EU average (65.7%).
"The average age at leaving the parental household was 28.2 years (EU 26.1 years)," the office says.
