Michelin star chefs visit Vukovar, praise Croatia's wine and food resources

Author: Ivana Tomičić Šušak

ZAGREB, May 15, 2018 (Hina) - A workshop called "Croatia 365 Gourmet" was opened in the eastern town of Vukovar on Tuesday, bringing together more than 40 participants, including world-renowned chefs with Michelin stars Lionel Levy and Frank Renimel, who spoke about gastronomy trends and praised Croatia's rich wine and food resources.

The event, organised by the Croatian National Tourism Board in co-operation with the Croatian Chamber of Crafts and Trades and the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, was designed to offer the very best educational content and information on world trends when it comes to gastronomy and oenology.

Invited by the Croatian National Tourist Board within the framework of the Croatia 365 Gourmet project, connoisseurs from around the world will come to Vukovar and showcase the latest trends in world gastronomy, the significance of local gastronomy in haute cuisine, modern confectionery and pairing food and wine.

They will also teach the audience how to promote and enhance a restaurant’s business, how to remain at the top in this line of work. Last but not least, they show what Michelin stars are, how to get them and what they mean in the first place.

Rightfully known as the leader of new Mediterranean cuisine, Lionel Levy was trained by internationally renowned chefs such as Eric Frechon and Alain Ducasse. Residing in Marseille, he has been a Michelin star holder since 2005. At the hotel Inter Continental Marseille – Hotel Dieu Lionel Levy he is in charge of all culinary work: bar and two different restaurants.

Chef Frank Renimel from southern France learned from the best chefs in France: the Pourcel brothers, Gerard Garrigues in Toulouse and Dominique Toulousy with the latter becoming his true mentor who stimulated his original creativity. Restaurant Relais de Pigasse was where he drew the inspiration needed to get his first Michelin star in 2003 when he was only 23 years old.
